Woot Bear will be starting off the new year in macabre fashion with Zachary Sweet on Friday the 13th. A collection of new paintings, mixed media pieces, and resin figures by Zachary will soon haunt our space! Join us for an evening of art inspired by supernatural and dark subjects with a satirical spin.
"Hear Me Spirit" will open on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 6pm-9pm.
About Zachary Sweet
My work is a mix of monsters, creeps and anxiety filled weirdos - among other Beautiful and horrible ladies and Gents. I create paintings and illustrations that entice the viewer to look at the macabre in a whimsical light. Inspired by the supernatural, near death experiences and the ghosts that surround us. I utilize my dreams, nightmares, and neuroses as my main point of inspiration, trying to create visions that are as real to me as anything else in our physical world. My work carries an element of playfulness, although I depict dark subject matter, I tend to instill a satirical component in my work, in hopes to convey the overall madness of the human condition. I don't consider himself mad. But I'm not afraid to leave people wondering.

Also in alignment with the book signing, we will exhibit his solo show "Sound & Vision II". Sound & Vision II is the second exhibition by Australian born, Canadian based Nathan Jurevicius to feature a series of artworks based on an eclectic selection of cult musical performers from the 1950s to current day. Commenting on the show the artist says: "No matter who we are or where we come from music and visual arts connect us all. Everyone can remember that first precious album they bought on vinyl/tape or that first gig that blew their mind. Memories are often associated with sounds and in this exhibition I've sketched some of the musicians that have influenced my life over the past few decades."

Mark your calendars! November 5th, from 6pm-9pm, is the Opening Reception for our next exhibition, "Day's Eye: New Works by Mariangela Tan".
"The day's eye opens with every dawn. New works by Mariangela Tan feature fiber sculptures and illustrations that represent life's constant offering of new beginnings through change and mutation."
Stay tuned for more details!
About Mariangela Tan
Mariangela Tan is a Brooklyn based artist and designer. Her themes often include explorations of sentimentality through tangible objects, and frequently crossover into the world of toys and consumables. Her current work showcases wool fiber and crepe paper that has been transformed into delicate floral arrangements with the mutation of fasciations that reflect her own personal transformations. These wild unpredictable changes cannot be controlled or directed in the natural world. So often inspired by the wonders and oddities of nature, she uses them as symbols of transformation that we can all relate to. Reconstructing these mutations under glass allows the audience an opportunity to examine the triggers of sentiment and obsession that may have once been buried or lost. Their rediscovery represents a very personal evolution for the artist that connects her with the observer on an emotional level.
Mariangela's work has been showcased in galleries and boutiques across the US and has attracted the attention of collectors globally. Along with her artist husband Justin Alan Volpe, they create heirloom quality collectibles and pop culture inspired goods collectively and independently.

From humble beginnings in a small town, Candie has managed to make a name for herself as a self taught artist and toy designer. In 2014 Candie began painting and designing toys and in that time has collaborated with countless toy producers including Lulubell Toys, Toy Art Gallery, and Max Toy Co. Today she is working as a full time artist while painting soft vinyl toys for Toy Art Gallery on the side. About JP Neang
An Artist & Creative Director, JP’s work has been showcased in various galleries in the US and globally. Woot Bear is pleased to be featuring Boundless Brooklyn's newest model kit: The Lifeguard Tower and their first-ever show in California with a huge lineup of epic artists and their painted custom Lifeguard Towers! Additionally Outré Apparel will be launching Limited Edition Lifeguard Tower and Tee!
Boundless Brooklyn is known for creating Water Tower model kits designed for painting and customizing, as well as putting on great art shows with amazingly talented artists. A segment from their Lifeguard Tower description:
This may come as a shock to some of you, but at Boundless, we're kinda into water. But we figured we'd start to show some respect to a classic icon that's at more of an eye-level view. Which is why we're stoked to introduce our new model kit: The Lifeguard Tower!
Whether you live along the shore in a town like L.A., San Diego, Honolulu, Miami, Fort Lauderdale...or you can't get enough surf and sand — you can now bring a bit of the beach into your home or office with our replica Lifeguard Tower Model Kit. Like all Boundless products, this model is made in NYC from chipboard — a 100% recycled material* — so it's got attitude while being respectful of Mother Nature. Even the packaging is completely recyclable.
The Lifeguard Tower fits perfectly on a desk, mantle, shelf, nightstand or end table and rises a breezy 8 1/2" H x 6" W x 13 1/4" D. And you can bring out your inner artist by customizing your Lifeguard Tower with acrylic paints and markers.
‘Horrible Adorables: Family Tree’ aims to explore relationships between clans of various creatures. The artists strive to give a visual representation of how the imaginary beasts may interact within their closest bonds, as to further reinforce and develop their fantastical world.
